Kaizen medal haul
ELGIN kickboxing club, Kaizen, has laid down the gauntlet to those out to steal their place in the national team with an excellent performance at a qualifying tournament.
The fighters returned home from the World Kickboxing Association world championship qualifiers with a haul of medals to secure their positions in Team Scotland.
Kaizen hopes to emulate the success they achieved at last year's WKA World Championships in Florida, which saw titles won by Jodi Henderson (11) and David Firth (17).
This year's tournament will be held in Spain and, said coach Kayleigh Robinson, they want to retain their titles and even add a few more.
She said the Scottish team qualifier, which was held in Wishaw, was one of the busiest she had ever seen, with different clubs representing different disciplines attending from all over Scotland.
However, Kaizen students showed they will have what it takes to be on top of the world, winning 12 gold, five silver and five bronze medals.
Robinson said: "The qualifiers meant a lot to the team, not only just in trying to hold a place for the worlds, but as the first Scottish tournament of the year.
"To come home with such a great medal haul sets the standard for the rest of the year. I was especially proud of the team, especially as this was some of the guys' first ever tournament."
Kaizen dominate Wishaw kickboxing competition.
Medal winners were (point sparring and light contact): Keiran Kelman (silver and bronze); Dylan Jackson (bronze); Bradley McNairn (silver and bronze); Summer McCallion (gold and silver); Tara Carroll (silver and bronze); Jodi Henderson (gold and silver); Craig Fraser (two gold); Alexander Kinlin (gold and bronze); Ria Davidson (two gold); Jason Farmer (two gold) David Firth (two gold); Kayleigh Robinson (gold).
